Objectives:
1.  Take an online survey to determine the type of engineer you would be.
2.  Reflect on the gameplay and  the nature of physics and engineering by playing a bridge building game.

Today's Lesson:

Hello, everyone.  Today we will start a new unit where we get into another area of technology called Engineering.  There are many types of engineers and today we'll get a glimpse into this field.  We will take a quick survey to see what type of engineer you would be and then play a "physics game" for you to get a taste of what engineering is like.

Objectives:
  1. Define the term "Syncretism" in the context of the Mexican celebration of "Day of the Dead."
  2. Create a PowerPoint Slide that includes your favorite symbols of the "Day of the Dead" holiday.

Today's Lesson:
Hello to all!  Today is the "Day of the Dead" holiday that is celebrated throughout all of Latin America.  We'll be taking a closer look at this holiday and how it came to be.  We'll also be looking at some common symbols, ideas and items that are common in today's celebrations.

Step 1:  Watch the short animated movie below


Step 2:  Make a list of some of the symbols and ideas that appear in the short movie.


Step 3:  Discuss with the class the idea of "syncretism" and religious holidays.


Step 4:  Pick one of two activities below (extra credit if you turn in both by Friday):

Option 1
Use Google and PowerPoint to show the symbols and ideas related to Day of the Dead that you find the most interesting.  See example to the right:

Objectives:
  1. Students will present their logos and explain their artistic decisions based on their knowledge of graphic design principles.
  2. Students will evaluate other students' graphic designs based on their knowledge of graphic design principles.

Today's Lesson:
Happy Monday, everybody!  Today you'll be presenting your logo to other students in the class.  Also, you'll be evaluating other students graphic designs as they present to you.  Finally, you'll also be voting for your favorite logo in your class.  The top 3 will be posted on our class website!

  2. Students will explain why having skills in graphic design is valuable.

Good morning and afternoon (and evening if you didn't finish your work today)!  Today you'll be taking a closer look at what a career in graphic design is like.  You'll listen to a graphic designer talk about her career and read about the graphic design career in an Art Career website.  By the end, you'll know much more about the career and why those skills are so valuable.
